Creative Risks and Topiaries

Updated: Jun 18, 2021

🌳 🪴 “Blessed is a person who finds wisdom,

And one who obtains understanding.

For her profit is better than the profit of silver,

And her produce better than gold.

She is more precious than jewels,

And nothing you desire compares with her.

Long life is in her right hand;

In her left hand are riches and honor.

Her ways are pleasant ways,

And all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,

And happy are those who hold on to her.” ~ Proverbs 3:13-18

Decorators, artists, and designers have been, well, obsessed with trees and, especially, topiaries, for millennia. 🌳🌲🌳

Trees are so often portrayed as life givers, protectors, bulwarks, even brave and wise! 🌲

This little project started with two frames, with decent mats, that I had put by. They were beautiful, but the dark wood just did not suit the lighter, brighter painting I am doing these days. I thought about painting them white and using existing prints.

But...then I decided to go all out and, inspired by Riley Sheehey (check out her beautiful botanicals 🌿 ), paint some watercolor topiaries, and paint the mats and frames to coordinate. 💙🌲🤍🌳💙

This is definitely my first attempt at frame painting and I learned a lot! 😅

What creative risks have you taken (or are you thinking about taking)?

With kindest regards
